- This workshop explores the topic of Contested Urban Futures. We will examine the concept of contested urban futures through a study of the growing challenges facing cities in the near and medium term. Growing political conflicts, social and cultural tensions, economic fractures, environmental debates are all occurring at a critical time for cities, as we adapt and evolve cities to meet new and changing needs of all residents in the 21st-century city. While we will look directly at contestation, the true outcome of the class will be finding opportunity spaces within this contestation to reshape the city to fully engage residents, create vibrancy, and work towards economic, social, and environmental sustainability and resiliency.
