- COURSE DESCRIPTION: Grounded in the notion that instruction can make a difference in additional language learning, Instructed Second Language Acquisition (ISLA) interrogates the best way(s) to learn and/or teach an additional language. More specifically, it explores the many variables, internal and external to the learner, which moderate the effectiveness of instruction. In this course, you will explore the impact of instructional variables, such as context, instructional features, and teacher characteristics on the learning of Spanish as a second or additional language, as well as the interaction of instructional variables with individual learner variables, such as motivation, aptitude, and anxiety.
