- Class Notes:
- It is generally assumed that language becomes more complex, accurate, and fluent as linguistic proficiency increases. Indeed the constructs of complexity, accuracy, and fluency (CAF) are argued to be valid indicators of proficiency and indices of language development, and recent years have seen a surge in CAF analyses in second language research. But what does each mean? How is it related to second language development? In what ways does language become more complex? How do we measure accuracy? And what are the limits of fluency? In this course students will explore these three constructs, their interactions, and their relationship to Spanish second language development.
