- Through the works of France and Italy's most prominent Afro-descendant directors, in this course we will explore the ever-evolving landscape of European identity, culture, and society. With longstanding traumas of Western European colonialism and contemporary migration displacements, as well as a unique sense of vibrancy, creativity, and world-making, Black European filmmakers grapple with complicated inheritances and thrive well beyond the available paradigms that whiteness has to offer. Embark into an exciting cinematic journey into an overlooked and unappreciated facet of European life! Course will meet twice a week, once for 75 minutes and once for 120 minutes to allow for occasional film screenings.
