- The confrontation between the United States and Russia over Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the marked increase in trade and security friction between the United States and China have led many commentators to declare that the world is entering a new era of Great Power competition. This course deploys debate and argumentation theory to analyze both how different interest groups and proponents of various schools of international relations theory construct and defend arguments about the nature of the emerging international order and how the the foreign policy of the United States should adjust to this order. Students will both critically analyze critical texts in this emerging controversy and debate and discuss the merits of these arguments.
