- Class Notes:
- This class will emphasize the practical tools needed to engage in empirical research on food and agricultural economics. This course builds on theoretical foundations in supply of agricultural goods, agricultural markets and policy, and consumer theory provided by APEC 8401 and 8403. The course objective is to familiarize students with a variety of research at the frontier of applied food and agricultural economics and equip them with the tools to conduct this research. In class, students will read and discuss published papers in a facilitated discussion, select a paper from a list of current working papers to practice discussant-type presentations, and partially complete a replication exercise. Outside of class, students will complete the remainder of the replication exercise, engage in two practice referee reports, and write a final paper in the format of a grant narrative, with a first stage proposal. Students will provide each other peer review on grant proposals and narratives, in addition to instructor feedback at each stage.
