Course Catalog Description:
Overview of medical vocabulary/physiology of major body systems. Understanding current clinical practice. Market opportunities of major body systems, Medical technology innovation.
Class Description:
Innovations in medical technology and health care delivery systems are leading areas of economic growth in the world. Leaders of health care-related organizations work with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, managers, and scientists. The clinical language of health care can be a barrier for effective management of complex medical enterprises - and that language is highly technical, based on anatomy and physiology concepts unfamiliar to most managers.
This course aims to provide knowledge of the fundamental anatomy and physiology likely to dominate future medical care practice and innovation. Following an overview of basic thoracic (chest) and abdominal structures, a learning template is presented for non-clinician managers to examine and understand anatomy and physiology. The remainder of the course examines four major body systems in more detail, plus a sampling of clinical practice for each covered body system…
 Neurologic
 Endocrine
 Respiratory
 Cardiovascular…
…by introducing these systems' basic anatomy and physiology and correlating that knowledge with the real world experience of guest entrepreneurs from the medical industry.
Who Should Take This Class?:
The outcome of this course is to provide a future manager with knowledge of the fundamental physiology of major body systems likely to dominate medical care practice and innovation for next two decades. This course is reserved for MBA students. If you are a non-MBA student seeking to take this course, fill out the petition form found at goo.gl/9Y9PR5. Additional information, including petition deadlines, can be found at http://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/master-business-administration/part-time-mba/admissions/mba-course-petition-form
