- Public communication processes, elements, and ethics. Criticism of and response to public discourse. Practice in individual speaking designed to encourage civic participation.

- Students can expect a combination of delivery methods: in person and remote. Additionally, section 018 offers students the option of taking this course with an off-campus service learning component. Details will be provided at the beginning of the semester if you wish to participate in this element of the course.
- Class Description:
- Instruction in basic oral communication skills, including structure, evidence, clarity of purpose, style and delivery. Students are expected to do research as well as speak before peers with reduced anxiety. Practical speaking emphasizes audience adaptation and includes developing analytical skills to evaluate oral discourse. Teaching methods include discussion, lecture, self-evaluations, and evaluations of peers and others. Required of Communication Studies majors but aimed at undergraduates who are interested in improving their personal communication skills.
