- The Sámi people (also spelled Saami and Same) are an arctic Indigenous people whose traditional and continual homeland (called "Sápmi") is located in the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. The "Indigenous Sámi Philosophy: a language-learning approach" course explores Sámi worldview (metaphysics) and practice (ethics) from a diverse variety of Sámi thinkers. Each week, we learn phrases in Davvisámegiella (the northern Sámi dialect) to ground thinking, discussion and writing on course content.
