- Environmental issues students will have to address in their future careers. Small group discussion, in-depth/focused intellectual debate. Topics depend on faculty selection or student interest.
- Class Notes:
- "Changing Permafrost Landscapes: Properties, Processes, and Trajectories." Permafrost regions are undergoing rapid environmental and climatic change. In this topics course, we will use first principles to understand the physical properties of these landscapes, the chemical and biological processes occurring in them, and how those properties and processes influence future change trajectories at local, regional, and global scales. Soils, permafrost, hydrological, and climatological topics will be addressed, in addition to the impacts that accelerating change is having on infrastructure, ecology, and people.
