By approaching these themes through the lens of recently published work, students will gain an understanding of how multimodality is conceived of and taught as part of academic writing instruction. A particular emphasis in the course is to address the possibility of making use of multimodal theory in order to generate a deeper understanding of critical literacy practices. Readings and activities are designed to encourage students to develop projects of their own that could become conference presentations and published works.
