- Title: The Graphic Novel in Contemporary Spain Course Description: In this course we will explore graphic novels and films that will help us understand the changing social, political, cultural and ideological contexts of Spain in the XX and XXI centuries. We will read/view the works with an eye to the changing and contested notions of Spanish identities that are worked through in the texts. We will frame our readings with relevant theoretical and critical texts to help us understand how art serves as a space for cultural negotiation and political contestation. We will also read about the ways that graphic novels put into play particular strategies in this process related to the creative interrelation of text and image.
