- Mexican Cinema: Issues in Race, Violence, Indigenous communities, and Gender This course examines the representation of race, violence, language diversity and gender in contemporary Mexican cinema. Engaging with the most up-to-date trends of philosophical and methodological tools, students will explore a selection comprised of fiction, documentary, and Indigenous community-directed films that confront social inequality, femicide, narco-violence, economic oppression, and current political community movements of emancipation.

- In this course, we will analyze films that explore a range of social and cultural issues in contemporary Spain. The issues studied may include, but are not limited to, changing gender roles, intergenerational conflict, race relations, immigration, and responses to economic precarity. We will read material about contemporary Spanish history in order to contextualize the films, and we will also read various texts of film theory in order to develop a critical practice of theoretically-informed film analysis
