- Text: "V Puti - Russian Grammar in Context". Attention will be given to developing reading comprehension, conversational competence, grammatical accuracy, and cultural sophistication. We'll discuss grammar and word study. We will read stories and other texts, and will paraphrase them, answer the questions and carry on discussions in class. You will write essays on the material we have read. Regular attendance is very important for your progress. Class participation and homework constitutes 20% of your grade. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what was covered, whether any changes were announced, etc. You can make up for a test, if you missed it due to illness or emergency. You are encouraged to take advantage of the instructor's office hours to discuss the material or any problems. During this semester each student will give a 10 minute informatl oral presentation on an important or interesting event which happened around the world during the last week. The purpose is to give you an opportunity to do some individual research, be creative and to practice your oral speech. There will be 3 compositions, 3 double-spaced pages each. Correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure, content (clear, logical thought). There will be a quiz after each chapter and a final written exam.
