TOPIC: Fertility, Marriage & Family The first part of this course examines trends, differentials and transitions in human fertility, focusing on historical and contemporary fertility transitions, the economic, social, and biological factors affecting reproduction, and political efforts to control fertility and population growth. The second part of the course examines issues related to marriage and other romantic partnerships, family, and family change. This course focuses on the demography of childbearing, marriage and the family, and fulfills a requirement for the Population Studies minor. Students are encouraged to take PA 5301, Population Methods & Issues in the U.S. & Global South, or SOC 5511, World Population Problems, prior to taking this course.
