Course Catalog Description:
General Pathology provides students with a basic understanding of the foundational aspects of pathology, such as inflammation, tissue injury and repair, and neoplasia. After finishing this course, students will understand in general how disease impacts body tissues and organ systems, and will recognize common abnormal patterns produced by oral and systemic diseases. This course precedes the Systemic Pathology course (DDS 6254) given in the DDS2 fall semester, and provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding systems-based pathology.
Class Description:

Pathology for Dental Students provides students with a basic understanding of the causes, mechanisms, and effects of human disease. The first part of the course covers general, foundational aspects of pathology, such as neoplasia, tissue injury and repair, and immunologic concepts. The second part of the course covers specific diseases according to organ systems, such as the cardiovascular system and respiratory system. After finishing this course, students will understand how diseases impact patients, and will be able to modify treatment and care accordingly. Students will also be able to recognize common oral manifestations of systemic diseases in order to provide more complete patient care.
