Course Catalog Description:
Develop skills in using technology applications to support teaching and learning. Internet applications, presentation software, Web 2.0 technologies, and Web site development.
Class Description:

This three-credit asynchronous online course is designed to prepare you to become more knowledgeable and comfortable integrating technology into classroom instruction. Throughout the course, we [as a learning community] will explore how we [as educators] can facilitate student use of technology and their development of new media to support meaningful learning of important subject matter.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this course, it is expected that learners will be able to:

  • Use educational technologies applicable to your educational setting

  • Develop a personal understanding of the affordances and limitations of specific educational technologies

  • Develop strategies to learn how to learn technology

  • Choose and justify the choice of specific technologies to teach particular concepts within your content area

  • Plan classroom instruction that integrates technology

  • Identify barriers that you may encounter towards integration of technology and how to overcome them

  • Develop a vision for technology education

This course offering does not have exams.
Class Format:
This class is delivered solely online--there will be no synchronous or face-to-face sessions. Coursework can be completed asynchronously at your convenience within designated deadlines. Learning together in this online community will be interactive and require that you be a self-motivated, independent learner in order to stay on top of assignments and coursework.
Workload:
UMN policy stipulates that "it is expected that the academic work required of Graduate School and professional school students will exceed three hours per credit per week." For this three-credit graduate-level course, that means that you can expect to spend a minimum of nine hours per week completing course readings, assignments, and other work.
