Matter/energy, atoms, compounds, solutions, chemical reactions, mole/chemical calculations, gases, liquids, solids, chemical bonding, atomic/molecular structure, acids, bases, equilibria. Physical/chemical properties of hydrocarbons and organic compounds. Problem solving. prereq: [High school chemistry or equiv], two yrs high school math, not passed chem placement exam, high school physics recommended; Students who will go on to take CHEM 1061/1065 should take CHEM 1015 only. Students who will NOT be continuing on to CHEM 1061/1065 and need to fulfill the Physical Science/Lab core requirement need take the 1-credit lab course CHEM 1017 either concurrently or consecutively. This course will NOT fulfill the Physical Science/Lab core requirement unless the CHEM 1017 lab course is completed either concurrently or consecutively.

CHEM 1015 Class Notes, Summer 2022: Lectures are internet-format only. Students will view the lectures online at their convenience. A high speed internet connection is required. Midterm exams, written to take about an hour, will be e-proctored online on the following days and time windows: Thursday 6/16 4-10AM Thursday 6/23 4-10AM Thursday 7/7 4-10AM Thursday 7/21 4-10AM The FINAL EXAM will be on Thursday 7/28/2021; 4-10AM More info will be provided by instructor. Class Description:
Chem 1015 is an undergraduate introductory chemistry course. It may meet a chemistry or science requirement or it may serve as a bridge between high school chemistry and Chem 1021. This course provides a broad survey of chemistry, including an introduction to organic chemistry. Additional topics include matter and energy; measurements in chemistry; ionic and molecular compounds; chemical reactions and chemical equilibrium; gases, liquids, solids, and solutions; acids and bases; and nuclear chemistry.
