Course Catalog Description:: LANG 3271 - Intro to Medieval French & Hist of French Lang is a Big Ten Academic Alliance CourseShare course. The instructor is at Ohio State University but you enroll and receive credit for it at the University of Minnesota. This course is received online. Journey in time through the history of the French language. Don't think "damsels in distress" - medieval French was full of intelligent women characters and we will read some of their stories. Don't think dusty and irrelevant-- surveying changes in the evolution from Latin to modern forms will deepen your understanding of pronunciation (AKA phonology), grammar and word forms (morphology), how French spelling got to be so peculiar, and give you transferable translation skills. This course is intended for students who have completed at least two upper-level French courses and is by permission only. Contact the Language Center at elsie@umn.edu.
