Introductory survey of historical, cultural, psychological, and sociopolitical dimensions of analyzing gender/sexuality. Norms/deviances pertaining to gender/sexuality as differently enacted/understood by social groups in different time-/place-specific locations.
Class Description:

Let's talk about sex! Why is sex important in understanding the politics of representation, history of science, history of racism, citizenship, immigration, prisons, tourism, labor, consumption, settler colonialism, colonialism, and militarism? In this course, we will discuss these issues by looking at a range of material, from film and music videos to ethnography and literature, and through interdisciplinary transnational feminist and queer approaches to sex.


Who Should Take This Class?:
Undergraduate students of all majors.
Learning Objectives:
To understand why sex is integral to politics.
Exam Format:
Two short papers and a final paper. Paper topics should be relevant to the class theme, but are chosen by students.
Class Format:
Lecture and discussion sessions.
