- Course description: Over the past decade, political and cultural conversations have increasingly been driven by compact arguments in social media spaces. This course examines rhetorical strategies in such spaces with a focus on strategies that prompt viral and memetic patterns of uptake and recirculation. This seminar will survey very recent scholarship on viral and memetic argument genres in social media, with the goal of helping students develop projects that diagnose, critique, and counterbalance the spread of misinformation via social media.
