Class Description:
The first part of this large, lecture course covers general pathology; this is followed by organ system pathology. The class meets for 3 lecture hours per week (M-W-F, from 8:00-8:50 AM), earning 3 credits for the semester. Students enrolled are primarily physical therapy graduate students and undergraduate students in Medical Technology and pre-Nursing. The course is taught by a variety of lecturers, each covering his/her own area of expertise. A required course handout package and the required course textbook, "Basic Pathology," ed. 6, (Kumar, Cotran and Robbins), are available for purchase in the Health Sciences Bookstore and are needed before the first day of class. Course grades are based on the total points scored in the 5 course unit exams - there are no midsemester or final exams. Prerequisite courses are anatomy (normal structure) and physiology (normal function) as it is necessary to understand the normal state before the abnormal or pathologic state can adequately be studied.
