Course Catalog Description:: Practical hands-on experience using GIS to solve problems in a real-world work environment. prereq: instr consent, strong GIS/mapping skills
Class Description:: This course allows students in the Master of Geographic Information Science program to earn internship credits toward their degree program. The objective is to gain practical hands-on GIS experience while solving problems in a real-world work environment. Students earn credits by working with a MGIS faculty sponsor as well as a site supervisor. A GIS 5530 Internship Form must be completed along with the student's MGIS faculty sponsor before a permission number to register will be provided.
Who Should Take This Class?:: Graduate students in the MGIS program
Learning Objectives:: The main objective is to gain practical work experience in the GIS profession.
Grading:: Determined by faculty sponsor and student when the GIS 5530 Internship Form is completed.
Exam Format:: No exam.
Class Format:: Primarily on-site work with some time spent during the term meeting with faculty sponsor.
Workload:: Other Workload: Workload varies depending on credit load (1-3) and agreement with faculty sponsor.
