- Note: this course does not fulfill the first-year writing requirement. WRIT 1201: This course gives students a foundation in the study and practice of writing process and rhetorical frameworks for a variety of genres and skills to enhance writing in and beyond college. This course is for students who want more instruction, practice, and time to develop familiarity with writing tools and processes to support their future college writing and successful completion of WRIT 1301 (fulfillment of FYW requirement).

- WRIT 1201 does NOT fulfill First-Year Writing requirement This section may move to a semi-synchronous online mode should room availability or health safety conditions necessitate a change. Scheduled meeting times will remain the same -- whether they meet in classrooms or in zoom.
- Class Description:
- WRIT 1201 introduces students to general writing strategies encountered at the college level. Through frequent practice and feedback, students learn to see writing as a tool for learning and a vehicle for expression of ideas and informed views. Students also learn a working vocabulary for discussing writing. Typical assignments include informal writing derived from personal experience, response to readings, analysis and evaluation of sources on the web and in print, and formal papers that increasingly make use of sources as well as close reading of texts. The course emphasizes the active practice of writing, from gathering ideas for a paper, through the drafting of papers, to careful editing. Many sections meet in computer classrooms. Some sections are designated for non-native speakers and are joined to other learning community courses. This course does NOT meet the first-year writing requirement.
