The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the organizational and management issues surrounding knowledge in the performance of knowledge intensive tasks in firms. The class will expose students to models of individual and organizational learning, expertise development and value creation enabled by information technologies.
A conscious recognition of knowledge and knowledge development processes is important in organizations where information systems are increasingly mediating action, response and learning by individuals and groups. This is particularly critical with the impending deployment of Predictive analytics and Machine Learning technologies in a variety of tasks now performed by knowledge workers like customer service, financial advising and medical diagnosis. This class focuses on exposing students to concepts from social science and behavioral theories to help students develop a strategic perspective on competing in the knowledge-based economy.

This class exposes students to the organizational principles for knowledge-intensive firm since the role of social networks and interorganizational connections are key resources to enhance firm performance and to compete in the knowledge-based economy.
