Techniques for studying small mammals. Lectures/field projects emphasize identification, distributions, community interactions, ecophysiology, population ecology. prereq: College-level biology course that includes study of animals or instr consent

This course is taught at the UMN Itasca Biological Station and Labs, located 220 miles northwest of the Twin Cities campus. Students are required to attend a mandatory orientation on Sunday, May 16, 2021, onsite and to pay $1,344 for room and board for housing and meals onsite 5/16/2021 - 6/4/2021. Class Description:
An introduction to the study of mammals. Class research projects will teach some of the standard techniques for studying mammals in the field while giving students experience in designing research projects, performing field work, analyzing data, and writing scientific papers. Laboratory work will include classification, anatomy, and natural history of mammals, with an emphasis on the mammals of Minnesota. Lecture topics emphasize mammalian diversity, evolution, ecology, and behavior.
