Course Catalog Description:: Fundamentals of biochemistry. Structure/function of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and carbohydrates. Metabolism, regulation of metabolism. Quantitative treatments of chemical equilibria, enzyme catalysis, and bioenergetics. Chemical basis of genetic information flow. prereq: general biology, organic chemistry, instr consent; intended for MBS students
Class Notes:: This course section is fully online. All work and tests are completed online. Students need stable internet access, a computer, a microphone, and a webcam that allow all exams to be remotely proctored with video and audio recording. If permission is needed to register, please contact the instructor.
Class Description:: This is a fully online section offered through Online and Distance Learning (ODL), College of Continuing Education. The objective of this course is to provide a foundation for understanding the chemistry of biological systems, i.e., to prepare the student to comprehend the composition of living cells and their physiological processes at the molecular level.
