Course Catalog Description:: Fundamentals of biochemistry. Structure/function of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates. Enzymes. Metabolism. DNA replication and repair, transcription, protein synthesis. Recommended prerequisites: Introductory biology (BIOL 1009 or BIOL 2003 or equivalent), organic chemistry (CHEM 2301 or CHEM 2081/2085 or equivalent). Note: CBS students should take BIOC 3022 not 3021.
Class Notes:: This course section is fully online. All work and tests are completed online. Students need stable internet access, a computer, a microphone, and a webcam that allow all exams to be remotely proctored with video and audio recording. If permission is needed to register, please contact the instructor.
Class Description:: This is a fully online section offered through Online and Distance Learning (ODL), College of Continuing Education. The objective of this course is to provide a foundation for understanding the chemistry of biological systems, i.e., to prepare the student to comprehend the composition of living cells and their physiological processes at the molecular level.
