- Examine links between cities and the environment with emphasis on air, soil, water, pollution, parks and green space, undesirable land uses, environmental justice, and the basic question of how to sustain urban development in an increasingly fragile global surrounding.
- Class Description:
- Where is nature in the city? Ecological function? Students will examine links between cities and the environment with an emphasis on the topics of air, soil & water, pollution, parks, public space, sustainability, and environmental justice, among others. We will examine the interplay of the environment, technology, scientific knowledge, and culture/politics in this wide-ranging course. Students are required to complete one field trip. Additionally; this spring a long-term project will be based on suggesting improvements to public parks in the City of Rosemount. Ms Pentel coordinates the Urban Studies program.
