- Class Description:
- This course introduces students to the theories, methods, and research in psychological and physiological acoustics. The first part of the course emphasizes physiological acoustics, including the external and middle ears, cochlea, auditory nerve, and central auditory pathways. The second half of the course relates perception to the underlying physiological processes discussed earlier in the course. Perceptual areas covered include detection, pitch, loudness, discrimination, and object perception. Examples are related to impaired auditory systems. Topics discussed include electrical hearing and sensory deprivation.
