- Class Description:
- This course reviews the health issues and nutritional needs of older adults. Course objectives include: 1) to understand the nutritional impact of psychosocial and physiological changes occurring in older adults; 2) to describe adult population demographics and the implications they have for public health nutrition; 3) to identify older adult populations at risk for chronic disease; 4) to learn dietary guidelines and nutrient recommendations for older adults; and 5) to identify, access, and describe community programs serving older adults. Course activities include online chats, written assignments, tests, and a final project. Although this is an online course, there will be one on-campus discussion session (optional) with gerontology practitioners in medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work, and nutrition.
