Course Catalog Description:: Concepts/issues relating to inventory, subsequent analysis of production systems. Production system from holistic point of view, using term commonly used in industrial ecology: "metabolic system." prereq: [MATH 1142 or [MATH 1271, MATH 1272]], [APEC 1101 or ECON 1101 or 3261W]
Class Description:: Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a tool used in understanding the cradle-to-grave environmental impacts of products, processes, and policies. Students will learn LCA methodology, including goal and scope definition, inventory analysis, impact assessment, interpretation, and application. The course will be taught using numerous case studies. Students will have the opportunity to apply the LCA methodology they learn in lectures, discussions, and other in-class activities to the preparation of a group project on a topic of their choosing.
