It aims to develop the four communication skills in Japanese (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) as well as culture-specific skills ("do's and don't"). Topics covered include describing appearance, reporting, giving an opinion/advice, describing a plan/intention/desire, and making a comparison. The course consists of 5 hours of discussion session and 2 hours of lecture session per week. Discussions are performance-oriented; teachers guide their students in the practice of Japanese in practical settings.
