- Class Description:
- Environmental threats and opportunities are becoming increasingly important for business. Environmental problems such as climate change, ozone depletion and loss of biodiversity have become important national and international issues. Governments continue to adopt regulations and standards which influence industrial activity on a daily basis. Banks, insurance companies and other investors have become conscious of liabilities imposed by improper handling of materials and contamination of property. Suppliers and customers are also setting their own requirements. With the advent of the Business Charter on Sustainable Development, the European Environmental Management and Audit Scheme and the ISO series of environmental standards, companies are responding to these challenges by establishing structured environmental management systems. This course provides a theoretical and practical framework for understanding and evaluating environmental impacts within business scenarios. The course enables students to effectively assess the strategic and tactical processes associated with environmental, business and policy trends facing today's organizations.
