- Class Description:
Performance/composition with critical inquiry into rhetoric theories. Writing, thinking, and speaking skills.
This course will challenge the student to develop public speaking skills, effective listening skills, critical thinking skills, and a deep understanding of rhetorical criticism used in delivering and critiquing public discourse. Persuasive speaking as an area of study historically has been closely associated with democracy and civic engagement. This course will build upon this foundation of democracy by focusing on social and political issues, and will explore how public discourse can become a means toward civic engagement.
