- Advanced techniques of composing Chinese characters using regular style of Chinese calligraphy. prereq: 3201 or instr consent
- Class Description:
- The course is designed for students who have completed the course CHN3201. Students with calligraphy background may also enroll with the instructor permission. Knowledge of Chinese language is not required. In addition to learn more advanced techniques of using the brush, students will learn different Chinese character structure and the various methods to compose characters. The Regular script calligraphy will be taught. Students will also be introduced to Chinese culture and literature with varied classical poems and couplets. By the end of course, students will be able to appreciate the art of Chinese Calligraphy. Through lecture, demonstration, and individual guidance, students will get hands-on experience to properly write characters, couplets and poems using the Regular script. Students will also have the opportunity to grasp the meaning of characters in calligraphy. The textbook used for this course was written by the instructor.
