- Course Catalog Description:
- In this class, students will learn the basic skills of 3D computer modeling and digital fabrication to generate objects using the Department of Art's 3D Printers, 3-axis CNC Router, and Laser Cutter. Instruction includes computer modeling in Adobe Illustrator and Rhino, transfer of files, and object fabrication. Prereq: ARTS major
- Class Description:
- In this class, students will learn basic skills of computer drafting and modeling with a focus on digital fabrication. They will use these fundamentals to remotely generate objects using the Department of Art's 3D Printers, 3-axis CNC Router and Laser Cutter. Instruction includes computer modeling in Adobe Illustrator and Rhino and object fabrication. This course takes place online via Canvas and is a partially self-paced course; students may work through content and activities at their own pace each week, however they will be expected to turn work in on time for each weekly or bi-weekly due date.
- Who Should Take This Class?:

- Learning Objectives:
Learning objectives:
To gain a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator as a tool in the creation of vector files for outputs such as a laser cutting, vinyl cutting and CNC router cutting
To gain a basic understanding of Rhino as a tool in the creation of 2D drafting and 3D modeling for outputs such as CNC router cutting and 3D printing
To gain a basic understanding of photogrammetry as a tool for the creation of 3D models
To experiment with merging digital and traditional artistic disciplines
To gain a broad understanding of computer modeling and digital fabrication processes
Throughout the course, we will emphasize practical applications for the working artist including but not limited to:
