- Topics vary. Field research. Politics of ethnographic knowledge. Marxist/feminist theories of culture. Culture, language, and discourse. Psychological anthropology. Culture/transnational processes.

- Class Description:
- This course closely examines different theoretical approaches to the study of different cultures. Major conceptual frameworks in modern cultural anthropology will be selected, such as social structural, Marxist, Freudian, and globalization. Ethnographic monographs will form the basis of the readings. Works such as Benedict's "Chrysanthemum and the Sword" and Taussig's "The Devil and Commodity Fetishism" will be read both for ethnographic and theoretical goals and contents.The course is meant for premajors, majors and other interested students. It will be taught using lecture format and small group activities
