- Planning theories, concepts, and constructs. Policies, processes, and tools for sustainable land use planning. Scientific/technical literature related to land use planning. Skills needed to participate in sustainable land use planning.
- Class Notes:
- Students are required to meet once every two weeks from 7:30 am to 8:30 am prior to the regularly scheduled class.
- Class Description:
- This course is designed to develop and refine student understanding of the principles, science and practice of sustainable land use planning and policy. Specifically, in the course students will (1) analyze interactions between the "three pillars of sustainability" in environmental planning and policy: ecology, economics, and equity, (2) identify and critically examine land use planning principles, processes and outcomes using planning case studies across the U.S., and (3) collaborate in teams on a planning sustainability assessment project. The course examines planning across local, state and federal levels at watershed, ecosystem, and landscape scales.
