- Class Description:
- This course is a continuation of Accelerated Beginning Hmong 1015, for students who have already been exposed to the Hmong alphabet and already know how to speak Hmong but need to enhance their skills in reading, writing, and listening as well as work on fluency. This class is fast-paced. One semester of this course is equivalent to two semesters of Intermediate Hmong. It is expected that the students understand all materials before coming to class to fully participate in the session. The main objectives of this course are to 1) enhance basic reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills using the Hmong Romanized Phonetic Alphabet (RPA); 2) strengthen the students? ability to communicate and negotiate meanings in everyday Hmong at the inter-personal level in the classroom, at home, and/or out in the community; and, 3) to increase students? vocabulary and fluency through select topics. The course will be taught utilizing lectures, reading and writing practice, projects, basic dialogues, group discussions, and class exercises. EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Upon completion of this course, it is expected that students will: 1. Be able to carry on an everyday conversation in a variety of settings with ease. 2. Be able to handle successfully a variety of uncomplicated, basic and communicative task in social situations. 3. Be able to read and write consistently with an increased understanding of simple texts dealing with a variety of basic and social needs. 4. Be able to identify key elements of Hmong culture and history. 5. Increase their understanding on the usage of Hmong grammatical rules.
