Prerequisites: FREN 3014 & 3015. In this course you will do intensive work in listening comprehension and oral expression by exploring current events in France. Both linguistic and cultural content are addressed. The main goals for the course are improvement of listening (interpretive) and speaking (interpersonal and presentational) skills through the exploration of current events. Secondary goals include vocabulary expansion and a greater awareness of stylistic variation in French.
Intensive practice in listening will be provided using authentic audio and video recordings and other multi-media materials to be used in and outside of class. You will write regular journal entries to record vocabulary and content learned through your listening work. You will practice oral expression through discussions, expressing opinions on the themes addressed in the course, comparing and contrasting with similar themes/situations in the U.S. You will do oral summaries of aural and textual materials and participate in role-plays and debates. The course is web-enhanced. No text is required.
