Course Catalog Description:
An applied learning experience in an agreed-upon, short-term, supervised workplace activity, with defined goals, which may be related to a student's major field or area of interest. The work can be full or part time, paid or unpaid, primarily in off-campus environments. Internships integrate classroom knowledge and theory with practical application and skill development in professional or community settings. The skills and knowledge learned should be transferable to other employment settings and not simply to advance the operations of the employer. Typically the student's work is supervised and evaluated by a site coordinator or instructor.
Class Notes:
In order to enroll in this class you will need to complete the following process: [1] Find and accept an internship. [2] All internships taken for credit in CLA are required to submit information through GoldPass powered by Handshake. Directions for how to "Request an Experience" can be found by following this link http://bit.ly/GPinstructions. You will need information such as your supervisor's first and last name, email address and a list of responsibilities to complete the experience form. Requesting an experience through GoldPass powered by Handshake will prompt your Internship Site Supervisor and the Course Instructor to approve the internship experience. Once your internship has been approved, your Course Instructor will contact you with a permission number to enroll. If you need assistance with completing this process, please contact the Course Instructor. *International Students must meet with ISSS prior to beginning the internship or Internship Reflection course to review their work status and how that impacts their internship.
