Course Catalog Description:: This course asks questions about the meaning of place, the relationship of space to place, the relationship of identity to place, and the relationship of place to environmental change in the event of industrial pollution, development projects, natural disasters and climate change. Theories of and ethnographic accounts of space and place in Cultural Anthropology and Geography will be discussed. In addition to foundational texts in the topic, we will also be reading contemporary accounts of nonwestern places.
