Course Catalog Description:
Basic grammatical structure, vocabulary, expressions of modern colloquial Korean. Introduces Korean writing system.
Class Notes:
Intensive Korean -- concurrent registration in KOR1012 is REQUIRED. Students not registered for both KOR1011 and KOR1012 for summer session will be automatically dropped. Students and instructors must be online at the same time, at scheduled days and times. 100% of instruction is online with no in-person meetings. Exams are also all online.
Class Description:
This course is the first of a two-semester sequence of Beginning Korean; it is designed for true beginners or non-heritage learners who have no or little background knowledge of Korean. It aims to begin developing the four communication skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in Korean. It covers the basic grammatical structures and vocabulary necessary for basic conversation, reading comprehension, and writing to have the students build a solid foundation for further study in the Korean language. The course also provides useful information concerning culture (where culture touches on language and communication) and everyday life in Korea. After completing this course, a student should be able 1) to maintain simple face-to-face conversation by asking and answering simple questions in Korean, 2) to comprehend the learned materials, 3) to write simple sentences and expressions, and 4) to comprehend simple texts with limited vocabulary
