Intensive Chinese -- concurrent registration in CHN 3031 is REQUIRED. Students not registered for both CHN 3031 and CHN 3032 for summer session will be automatically dropped. Students who want to register for only one course must request special permission from the instructor. Students and instructors must be online at the same time, at scheduled days and times. 100% of instruction is online with no in-person meetings. Exams are also all online.
Class Description:
This course will be open to students who have passed the Semester I 3rd-year Chinese language course (Chn 3031) during the autumn and winter of 1999. The focus will shift slightly away from reading skills, to include more student-guided/led discussions in Chinese, on a variety of assigned and student-chosen themes. We will also attempt to incorporate Chinese Film into the classroom, to incorporate a broader cross-cultural knowledge of the target language cultural context. Students will be provided with less preparatory material for each assignment, as they become more adept at navigating through unfamiliar vocabulary and spontaneous situations. Finally students will be more frequently penalized (points deducted) for lapsing into English during classroom sessions.
