- Analysis of phonetics/phonology of modern Spanish. Regional/social variants of the language in Spain and Spanish America. Emphasizes improving Spanish pronunciation. prereq: A C- or better in Span 3107W or TLDO 3107W
- Class Description:
- This course aims to provide undergraduate students with an understanding of the basic concepts of phonetics and phonology and to teach them to apply these concepts to Spanish. The course will be both conceptual and practical. The practical component will involve the students using the concepts learned in class to improve their own pronunciation of Spanish. Students will acquire skills in recognizing, producing, and describing in linguistic terms the sounds of Spanish and in understanding and analyzing the Spanish sound system. The conceptual component will involve understanding the relationship between sounds in the Spanish phonological system and studying other factors (linguistic, social, etc.) that influence this system.
