Course Catalog Description:: Discuss musical form of free jazz comprising flow expressivity, collaborative interaction, gestural communication from theoretical/practical point of view. Major representatives such as Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, John Coltrane. Sound material include classical recordings but also recent free jazz CDs/DVDs. prereq: Grad student in music or instr consent
