- Course modality: This course is completely online in a synchronous format and meets online at the scheduled times. Description: This class explores the politics of disease: its understanding, underlying causes, experience, representation, and responses. We will focus critical attention on those forms and practices of turbo capitalism generating increasing inequalities globally and as a result creating particular patterns of risk and disease; the role of medicine in creating understandings of disease historically and currently; intersections of disease, race, geography, sexuality, disability and gender; and the political economies of the pharmaceutical industry.
