- Class Description:
- In this course we will cooperatively explore the many aspects of religion in the ancient Greek city of Corinth. This will include the historical, social, political, spatial, architectural, philosophical, and mythological dimensions of religion and religious practice in Corinth. As we grow in understanding throughout the semester about the religious life of Corinth, we will read Paul's Corinthian correspondence and bring to bear what we have learned about Corinth in order to develop sophisticated interpretations of the letters. The ultimate goal is to understand how a deep dive into the religious culture of an ancient city can affect the interpretation of an ancient work of literature.
