Class Description:
Herzlich Willkommen! Ready to continue learning the language, the rich culture, and fascinating histories of German-speaking countries?

German 1002 is part of a proficiency-based program, emphasizing building skills so that you can use the language confidently and accurately in a variety of situations. This course focuses on your development of interpersonal speaking and listening skills, interpretive reading and listening skills, and presentational speaking and writing skills while working on an introduction to the cultures of the German-speaking world. The textbook, Vorsprüng, is accompanied by an online workbook (iLrn). In this course we will discuss living situations and cities, compare educational systems and career opportunities, learn a bit about studying abroad and what that entails, and end the semester by learning about holidays and fairy tales. Most of class time is spent working in pairs and small groups on a variety of activities. Since the majority of class time is devoted to speaking and listening in German, class attendance is critical. Expect an average of 1.5 hours of outside preparation for each class session hour.
